Community Digital Champions
Derbyshire Dales Primary Care Network (PCN) is a partnership of local GP practices working together with community services, voluntary organisations and our Patient Participation Groups (PPGs).
We are building a digital front door that helps people find the right support, at the right time, in the right way.
Digital can make life easier.
Ordering prescriptions. Booking appointments. Finding trusted advice. Connecting to local groups.
But we also know not everyone feels confident or included.
That’s why we are developing a network of Community Digital Champions across the Derbyshire Dales.
What is a Community Digital Champion?
A Digital Champion is a friendly local person who helps others feel more comfortable using digital tools.
You might help someone:
- Download and use the NHS App
- Access online services from their GP practice
- Find local activities or support
- Understand where to get reliable health information
- Take their first steps onto the internet
You are not expected to be an IT expert.
Encouragement, patience and kindness are what matter most.
Why this matters
When people feel confident with digital, they are more able to:
✔ manage their health
✔ access support earlier
✔ stay connected to their community
✔ feel less isolated
It helps us join the dots between services and people 💚
How much time is involved?
We are asking for just a few hours each month.
Some champions may help at:
📍 community venues
📍 libraries
📍 practice events
📍 local drop-ins
We will work with you to find what suits your availability.
What support will I get?
You won’t be on your own.
We will provide:
✅ guidance and simple training
✅ ongoing support from the PCN team
✅ clear information about safe boundaries
✅ materials you can use when helping others
✅ opportunities to meet other champions
Who can volunteer?
Anyone who is:
💚 friendly and approachable
💚 comfortable using basic digital tools
💚 happy to encourage others
💚 interested in supporting their community
Retired people, students, carers, PPG members, local residents – everyone is welcome.
